Voice-Net VoIP recording

VoIP Call Recording

SMARTCALL Voice-Net recording products record Voice over IP calls in addition to telephone trunks, digital or analogue extensions, and audio from the telephone or headset at the desktop.

Voice-Net recording technology uses a VoIP tapping API retrieving both voice and call data packets from the network. This data is then processed, such that the voice-stream together with the call data can be recorded or monitored in real-time. Combining voice and call data in this way eliminate the need for additional CTI integration as all telephony event information is available together with the voice itself.

This same API is used to record VoIP, digital or analogue extensions, ISDN, and Analogue trunks, facilitating any mix of these recording types to co-exist on one platform and hence providing flexibility and reduced cost.

VoIP traffic is monitored using a network card in the Voice-Net which is directly connected to a SPAN port on the local network Fast Ethernet switch. The SPAN port outputs copies of all VoIP traffic on the VoIP Virtual LAN segment to the Voice-Net VoIP recording interface. All VoIP phones should be connected within a single VLAN, allowing their traffic to be copied to the SPAN port.

In the scenario where there are VoIP phones in remote offices to be recorded at a central location, 'Remote Spanning' (RSPAN) can be used. Clearly it is important to choose Ethernet switches which support local and remote SPAN ports, together with guaranteed Quality Of Service for the VoIP VLAN segments.

Voice-Net VoIP Specifications

The number of VoIP phones that can be recorded  on a single Voice-Net Node depends largely upon whether the VoIP codec uses audio compression or not and the server hardware specification. For example:

  CPU                    G711 codec                    G729 codec

 Type               (uncompressed)               (compressed)

Pentium 4           96 channels                   32 channels

Dual Xeon         128 channels                   96 channels

The Voice-Net Active Link Adapter supports capture of audio at the telephone handset or headset which can be used with just about any type of phone from any manufacturer.
